A formal contractual document authorizing a specific change to scope, cost, or schedule after a contract has already been signed. Where Change Management is the ongoing process of controlling and evaluating proposed changes, a Change Order is the specific, signed document that actually authorizes one - often triggered by a coordination clash or an RFI response that reveals the original design can't be built as documented.
