Autodesk's native CAD drawing format, still the everyday language of 2D exchange. The native binary file format of AutoCAD, and by extension one of the most common formats for exchanging 2D drawing information in construction, even in a BIM-heavy project. Revit can export sheets and views to DWG for consultants who still work in 2D CAD, or to satisfy a contract requirement for DWG deliverables.

DWG is not a BIM format - it carries lines, arcs, and blocks, not parametric elements or rich data - so exporting to DWG is effectively a step down in information richness. It remains essential in practice because plenty of contractors, authorities, and sub-consultants still expect drawings in DWG rather than IFC.
