Quantity surveyors extract measured quantities from drawings or a BIM model - historically by hand, increasingly via QTO tools reading model data directly - to produce cost estimates, bills of quantities, and valuations as a project progresses. BIM's structured, parametric data makes this measurement faster and far less error-prone than working from 2D drawings alone.
