Surveyors capture an existing site or building with a laser scanner or photogrammetry to produce a point cloud, then modelers use that point cloud as an accurate reference to build walls, floors, and other elements in Revit (or another BIM tool) at real-world dimensions. It's the standard way to get reliable as-built models for renovation, retrofit, and facilities-management projects where no accurate existing model exists.
