Whether it's called a Family in Revit, a Component in ArchiCAD, or a Block-with-data in another tool, all of these are BIM objects: geometry plus structured, parametric data (dimensions, material, performance, manufacturer specs) bundled together so it behaves consistently wherever it's placed. Manufacturers increasingly publish their own BIM objects so their real products can be specified directly inside a model.
