Laser-scan data used to model existing buildings. The bridge between existing buildings and BIM. A point cloud is the output of a 3D laser scan (or photogrammetry): millions of measured points that together form a precise digital snapshot of a physical space.
Scan to BIM is the workflow of importing that point cloud (in Revit: RCP/RCS files, linked like any other reference) and modeling the real building over it - walls, floors, structure, systems - to produce an accurate as-built model for renovation, retrofit, or documentation projects.
