The IFC schema version that added full, native support for civil infrastructure - roads, railways, bridges, ports - alongside the buildings IFC already covered. Before 4.3, exchanging infrastructure data as open BIM meant stretching a buildings-focused schema to fit a road or a bridge; 4.3 gives alignments, road, rail, and other infrastructure disciplines their own proper IFC entities instead.
