A single discrete component within a BIM model that represents a real physical or spatial part of the building. Walls, doors, ducts, and rooms are all model elements - the basic building blocks that carry both geometry and data inside an information model. Understanding "model element" as the generic unit is what makes concepts like Level of Development and Model Element Author meaningful, since both are defined per-element, not per-model.
