An open, text-based 2D CAD exchange format - the simpler, more universally readable cousin of Autodesk's native DWG format. Because DXF's structure is openly published and text-readable, it's the safer choice when exchanging 2D drawing data with software that may not perfectly support DWG's proprietary binary format - at the cost of larger file sizes and occasional loss of some DWG-specific formatting.
