An imported DWG or model is frozen the moment it's brought in - if the source file changes, nothing updates - while a Linked Model stays connected and refreshes automatically, which is why Linked Models are the standard for ongoing multi-discipline coordination, and importing is generally reserved for one-off reference geometry that will never need to update.
