A defined event under NEC-family contracts that entitles the contractor to an adjustment to the price and/or completion date - the NEC's structured equivalent of a variation or claim. NEC contracts list exactly which events qualify (a change instructed by the client, an unforeseen physical condition, and others), and require them to be assessed and priced quickly - a structured alternative to the more open-ended change order and claim processes used elsewhere.
