The client's BIM brief - what they need and how. The document that starts every BIM project. The EIR is written by the client (employer) and defines exactly what information they need from the project team - in what format, to what level of detail, and at which project milestones.

Think of it as the client's BIM brief. It covers:

• What software and file formats are required
• What Level of Development is expected at each stage
• How information should be named and organized
• Who is responsible for delivering what

Everything in the BIM workflow flows from the EIR. Under the older UK PAS 1192 standard the same acronym stood for "Employer's Information Requirements" - ISO 19650 renamed it to keep the term procurement-neutral internationally, since it uses "appointing party" rather than "employer."
