The umbrella discipline that ISO 19650 exists to codify: planning, producing, reviewing, and securely sharing information throughout a built asset's life, using consistent processes rather than ad hoc habits that vary team to team. It is broader than "using BIM software" - information management covers the naming conventions, approval workflows, security classifications, and roles and responsibilities that make a CDE actually function as intended, rather than just being a shared folder with a fancier name.

Most of the acronyms in this glossary - EIR, BEP, AIR, PIM, AIM, LOIN - are all specific pieces of the information management framework that ISO 19650 defines.
